Operation Outdoors is a Veteran operated 501(c) (3) not for profit, with a mission to enrich the lives of military veterans and their immediate family by creating opportunities to experience the freedom and wellness that the outdoors provides.
Operation Outdoors provides Kayaking, Fishing, Camping, Golfing, and other outdoor pursuits to veterans who have never experienced them, or those who may have adaptive, or financial limitations, that may make it difficult to experience them.
Currently operating in 12 states and growing everyday, Operation Outdoors provides all of the equipment required for our trips at no cost to the veteran. Our trips are conducted in a small intimate setting, typically with a max of 1-2 veterans and 2-3 trip volunteers or coordinators, with some obvious exceptions like golf. We have found that this type of setting best allows us to focus not only on the veterans safety, but also our “4 pillars of success” which are Education, Experience, Fellowship, and Support.
We use only top of the line equipment, and our events are conducted in a professional environment, with a focus on providing the experience, and the education, so the veteran can grow in the sport. We achieve this by using experienced, professional guides and trip volunteers who are thoroughly vetted, and background checked. Our process of of teaching through education and trip experience affords veterans the opportunity to stay engaged, and to grow and share the skills of the outdoor pursuits we foster.
In addition to our activities, Operation Outdoors hosts social networking groups that allow military veterans, family members, and our Coordinators and Volunteers to engage with other like minded individuals, for learning, camaraderie, and fellowship. We have found that these social groups have been enormously successful for recently separated veterans who have had difficulty integrating into their new civilian surroundings.
